About This Event

Since 2007, the Delaware Historical Society has hosted the Delaware History Makers' Award event to support the organizations' educational programs and exhibitions. Past honorees include Vice President Joseph R. Biden; filmmaker Ken Burns; DuPont CEO Ellen Kullman; civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson; Dogfish Head co-founders, Sam and Mariah Calagione; and philanthropists Gerret and Tatiana Copeland, among others. This year, we honor Dr. Velma Scantlebury-White. \ \ Dr. Velma Scantlebury-White is the first African American woman to specialize in transplant surgery in the United States. She was the Associate Director of the Kidney Transplant Program at Christiana Care from 2008-2020 and serves as an advisor to medical organizations and healthcare professionals. Dr. Scantlebury-White has been named to both the "Best Doctors in America" and "Top Doctors in America" lists multiple times. \ \ The October Delaware History Makers' Award will follow Covid protocols, taking place indoors and outdoors at the Delaware History Museum on Market Street. Join us for hors d\'oeuvres, live music, a buffet dinner, and award presentation, kicking off at 6:00 pm on October 7th. It will also be livestreamed: both in-person and virtual tickets may be purchased at https://dehistory.org/historymakers/\
