About This Event

Join us around the fire once more as we immerse ourselves in the history of the often untold story of African settlers in New Sweden. Gather around the bonfire with us in a picturesque setting, and be transported back in time through stories of folklore and history by our gifted storytellers. Each community, each state, are threads in the fabric that make up the history and legacy of our great nation.\ \ Our storyteller will be Dr. Abdullah Muhammad, who will recount stories from his recent best-selling book: \"Africans in New Sweden:The Untold Story\". Dr. Muhammad will reveal the hidden role of Africans, both free and enslaved, in shaping teh first viable European communities, namely Swedish and Dutch, in Delaware. His book arose from the claim that only one African person existed in New Sweden from its founding, which he sought to disprove. \ Dr. Muhammad\'s book \"Africans in New Sweden\" will be available for purchase at a special event discount.\ \ The program begins at 7 pm outside on the grounds of Greenbank Mills and Philips Farm and lasts approximately one hour. Be sure to BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair) and a blanket as autumnal chill will be in the air. Themed food and drinks will be available to purchase during the event.\ \ Admission is free but we ask that you consider donating by clicking here:\
